Resolution’s Code of Practice – Good Divorce Week 2025
Each year Resolution run ‘Good Divorce Week’ which is designed to promote a better way for separating couples and focuses on raising awareness of ways to minimise conflict. Concerningly, it has been reported that the average duration of private cases in the family court has increased from 26 weeks in 2018 to 41 weeks last year – a 36% increase.
With latest statistics showing that, on average, over a thousand cases are started in the family court each working day, it’s clear that these delays are not going to reduce without better resources and knowledge for separating couples.
At Gwyn James, all of our family lawyers are Resolution members and follow a Code of Practice. This means:
- Listening to you, being honest with you and treating you with respect.
- Explaining all the options and giving you confidence to make the right decisions.
- Helping you focus on what’s important in the long-term.
- Helping you balance financial and emotional costs with what you want to achieve.
- Working with others to find the right approach and the best solutions for you.
- Managing stress in what can be an already stressful situation
By following this code we are dedicated to helping couples find a non-confrontational approach to divorce and separation. This includes avoiding a lengthy and adversarial court process where possible.
We therefore wish to join Resolution during Good Divorce Week with encouraging separating couples to find a better way to resolve issues. We recommend seeking early legal advice to ensure the best possible chance of reducing conflict and where possible avoiding lengthy court proceedings.
