January is often thought of as the busiest month of the year for new enquiries for divorce lawyers, with the first working Tuesday in January being known as ‘Divorce Day’.
The Christmas period is often a time for reflection and combined with a desire to start the year afresh, many couples who may have been putting off dealing with problems within their marriages, may take that step to seek legal advice regarding relationship breakdown.
For some, the increased time spent together as a couple over the Christmas period can force those relationships already under strain to consider making contact with divorce lawyers to gain advice and information relating to the possible breakdown in their marriage.
It is likely that 2024 will see a greater surge in enquiries than previous years due to the change in divorce law where it is now possible to obtain a no fault divorce, only having to show the Court that the marriage has irretrievably broken down.
It is often a very difficult decision to reach and quite often some initial information is required with advice relating to the various options available to separating couples and their families.
